Role Summary:
Utilizing Rivian processes based on industry standards from VDA and AIAG, the Lead Supplier Development Engineer – Thermal will be responsible for managing the quality performance of our energy storage system supply base.
Responsibilities:
Carry out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplier advanced product quality planning (APQP).
Current knowledge of the latest state of the art for automotive lithium ion batteries, battery module and battery pack suppliers
Deep understanding of functional safety (ISO 26262) and embedded software development requirements (Automotive SPICE)
Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements
Lead the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities and Health, Safety and Environmental risks
Support new product launches to ensure that supplier quality meets the required standards
Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues
Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues
Promote the use of Rivian preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience
5+ years of supplier quality, quality, or engineering experience
3+ years of Thermal and/or Energy Storage Systems/Battery experience
Technical expertise in Battery and associated electrical components and processes
Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part
Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Run at Rates
Ability and willingness to travel internationally with no restrictions on location
