As the world's largest car sharing marketplace, Turo is growing fast and hiring talent in the US, Canada, the UK, France, and Australia! Our driven, down to earth team empowers you to push yourself, make a huge impact, and accelerate your career growth.
We are looking for a talented lawyer who is passionate about our mission of putting the world’s 1.5 billion cars to better use and who has a demonstrated track record of excellent judgment in balancing legal risk with business strategy.
About the team
This position will report to Turo's Senior VP Legal at our headquarters in San Francisco, California, and will be Turo’s first in-house attorney outside of the USA. You will have the chance to shape the global legal department at our rapidly growing company. The successful candidate must be fluent in both English and French and able to perform written and verbal legal work in both languages with ease.
This position can be based in either our London or Paris office.
What you will do
Provide your colleagues in France, and the UK, with business-oriented legal advice to support Turo’s rapid international growth.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws dealing with intellectual property, privacy, content regulation, consumer protection, advertising, and industry-specific regulation.
Advise the local trust and safety, customer support, insurance, marketing, product, communications, business development, and engineering teams on a broad range of legal and compliance issues, including litigation.
Provide pragmatic day-to-day advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business interests and ensuring an excellent customer experience.
Draft and/or review clear and concise contracts, marketing materials, FAQs, terms of service, and privacy policies.
Support the government relations team on regulatory matters and advise on the legal aspects of e-commerce laws, insurance, and industry specific regulations. Help shape evolving car sharing regulation and fend off anti-competitive threats from those that would like to curtail the growth of our disruptive industry.
Provide guidance to the HR and finance functions on the legal aspects of employment, corporate, and tax matters in close coordination with legal colleagues in the US.
Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, and high-tech laws to ensure an ongoing ability to provide excellent pragmatic legal advice.
Design, build, and improve processes and procedures to keep up with scaling growth.
Your profile
5+ years of relevant experience ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house technology focused experience across Europe (and the United Kingdom).
Proven ability to get up to speed quickly, learn new areas of law, function independently, and provide pragmatic business focused advice to non-lawyers across every level of the business from recent college graduates to the country managers.
Highly collaborative person who champions our mission and wants to win as a team.
Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and an offbeat sense of humor are always welcome.
Fluent in both English and French and able to perform written and verbal legal work in both languages
