Engineer II – Mechanical Development & Test

About the role The Mechanical Development & Test team is critical to preserving and improving the reliability of the vehicle and its various systems, while at the same time providing sufficient resources to support both ongoing development and production. The Mechanical Development & Test team collaborates with the design and analysis teams to perform qualification tests, refine designs and ensure the structure of the Electron vehicle, mechanical components and fluid systems meet functional and performance requirements.
The scope of Mechanical Development & Test teamwork covers all structural components on the vehicle including tanks, and all other pressure vessels, plus all mechanical parts and fluid systems. Propulsion systems and Avionic components and systems are covered by other teams, although coordination across teams is required, and occasionally supported with component level testing.
The Mechanical Development & Test Engineer I carries out the various functions of the Mechanical Development & Test Team under the direction of more senior engineers. This includes planning, designing, and implementing test programs related to the launch vehicle and sub-systems. The role works closely with the production team, design engineers, analysts, and assembly technicians to achieve high quality products.
Essential skills
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering preferred)
2+ years’ development and/or test engineer experience
Knowledge of instrumentation, signal acquisition (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.), and measurement error
Creative, analytical, good at problem solving
Clear communication skills
Calm under pressure
Good hands-on engineering skills
Postgraduate study in engineering
Experience with the National Instruments ecosystem
Experience with NX or SolidWorks
Experience with a scripting language for data processing such as Python or Matlab
Excellent writing abilities
