SPACE SYSTEMS
This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in Rocket Lab’s evolution into an end-to-end space company that delivers launch, spacecraft, and on-orbit operations. The Space Systems Division is shaping Rocket Lab’s future with Photon, our brand of high-performance satellites, enabling innovative missions in low Earth orbit and beyond including missions for NASA to LEO, the Moon, and Mars and commercial customers including leading the design and manufacture of 17 high power telecommunication spacecraft buses for Globalstar.
Rocket Lab is also growing spacecraft components business, anchored on the acquisition of Sinclair Interplanetary manufacturing reaction wheels and star trackers in Toronto, SolAero Technologies manufacturing solar power and primary structure solutions in Albuquerque, Planetary Systems Corporation manufacturing launch separation systems in Silver Spring, and Advanced Solutions, Inc. provider flight and ground software as a service in Denver. Our component’s business is key to vertically integrating our spacecraft solutions and enabling constellations for customers.
TECHNICAL WRITER
Based at Rocket Lab's Colorado location in Littleton, the Technical Writer is responsible for creating, maintaining all technical documentation for Space Systems Software. You will support the Senior Manager of Products and Space Systems organization, with deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors, and investors.
Work Centers include: Critical Work Centers + Product Lines
WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:
Learn and document the state of the art ASI By Rocket Lab Product Suite.
Ensure documents are kept under change control management and properly stored within RL Confluence site.
Creation and maintenance of documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources.
Collaborate with functional teams to help architect and implement designs
YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a focus in Aerospace, or Engineering
Expert knowledge of desktop publishing tools, including Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Word
Experience in other elements of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe publishing tools and editing, layout, and production of technical documents, which include graphics, tables, and other embedded content
Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Excellent writing and editing skills, including expert-level understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:
Master's Degree in Technical Writing or Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or Communications.
Understanding of the Unified Modeling Language (UML).
Experience converting engineering instructions and information into content intended for a variety of audiences and ability levels
Work experience in the Aerospace and/or Defense industry
Experience writing conceptual topics and step-by-step workflows by collaborating with subject matter experts to produce and maintain help documentation.
Ability to write technical content for maintenance technical manuals including installation, test, repair, and troubleshooting procedures.
Ability to acquire and verify subject matter content by interviewing workers engaged in developing products, observing production methods, referring to engineering drawings, notes, manuals, and similar publications.
Ability to write using clear and concise language that adheres to customer established standards and conventions.
Work efficiently individually as well as actively participate in integrated teams.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Good communication skills, via multiple platforms (e.g., instant messaging, email, phone, video conference, etc.)

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. In addition to base salary, Rocket Lab offers a comprehensive total compensation offer package based on individual qualifications and experience, including company stock.
