What We’re Looking For:
The Head Managing Instructor (HMI) will deliver our course curriculum, facilitate learning, lead a team of educational support staff, and create optimal conditions for outstanding student outcomes. This role has teaching and facilitation assignments, as well as management responsibilities, and will help to manage a group of part-time employees across an allocated portfolio of products and courses.
This role combines deep applied experience with a passion for sharing knowledge and positively impacting students’ learning by differentiating based on student needs and effectively delivering content while also creating and maintaining a productive learning environment for instructors and educational support teams.
Depending on experience and expertise, the HMI may be allocated to work on products within the following areas.
Executive education & undergrad courses/sections:
Technical
Functional business management
Leadership / strategy
Disruptive/ topical
Bootcamps:
Coding
Data analytics and visualization
Cybersecurity
Fintech
Digital marketing
Product management
Technology project management
UX/UI
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Program Delivery (65%): Including but not limited to:
Fulfill standard instructor role and duties
Fulfill the role of Head/Lead Instructor for specified courses (this could be any course for which the incumbent meets the University Partner approved profile requirements)
Lead classes and support students: Preparing and leading class sessions, sharing real-world industry experience, monitoring student concerns and inquiries, analyzing weekly student data and differentiating instruction based on student needs, and supervising others) assigned to the course.
Course content reviews: You can identify and recommend improvements to our current offerings and curriculum.
Lead & Support Part-time Educational Staff (25%): Including but not limited to:
Empower people
Manage the day to day performance of part-time Instructional team members including pedagogical performance, time & attendance, compensation, and development.
Provide peer coaching to part-time Instructors within the allocated portfolio as and when required.
Review the performance of the Instructors within the allocated portfolio with a view to talent creation for future or other courses/classes.
Develop a community of practice linked with the portfolio’s subject matter to grow an understanding of adult learning pedagogy
Engage self learning by ensuring a culture and ethos of support and challenge.
Market and Organizational Assistance (10%): Including but not limited to:
Being knowledgeable of and compliant with all 2U policies.
Team recruitment: As required and requested, Review bios and Skills Alignment Assessment results for new part-time employees and/or independent contractors for the assigned course(s), and complete the hiring recommendation report for the Academic Recruitment team to action.
Bootcamps events: participating in market events such as Demo Day, Admissions Events, and Tech Talks , providing administrative support for Student Success Manager (SSM) in market, and participating in bi-weekly regional Full-Time Instruction Calls
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
Bachelor's Degree.
A minimum of two (2) year’s experience delivering online education.
Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in industry (e.g. Web Development).
Experience in managing a team of professionals.
Experience with relevant software and tools, such as:
Google Suite, Moodle
Version control (Git, Github) and deployment servers such as Heroku
Must demonstrate a growth mindset, industry knowledge and technical expertise (as required), and an ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise way.
Proficiency in the following is required for Bootcamps:
General - Git, MVC, Object-Oriented Programming.
Browser-Based Technologies - HTML/CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, Responsive Design, Bootstrap, and React.js.
Server-Side Development - User Authentication, Progressive Web Applications (PWAs),and MERN. Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js), ORM, Template Engines (Handlebars.js).
Databases - MySQL and MongoDB.
