Our Assistant Editor is a contributor to the overall content strategy, led by our Editor. This role is about both 1) to bring ideas to the table for content on which Gro would have a unique perspective and 2) to produce content from ideation to publishing through all the processes and experts that need to weigh in.  The Assistant Editor role is to bring forth the best from Gro - our perspectives, our experts, and our insights. This position is ideal for someone who is curious and constantly generating ideas, can quickly pivot as the young company's opportunities and strategies shift, and then builds an inclusive, welcoming, and orderly process to get quality content out the door.   What You’ll Do Assist Gro’s Editor in developing, editing, and rewriting a variety of communications about agriculture and climate for distribution to a wide range of industry, academic, and nonprofit professionals worldwide Keep close track of agricultural and climate news worldwide with the aim of developing story ideas that showcase the value of Gro’s data platform  Take charge of Gro’s core editing process of producing a regular stream of articles written by Gro’s research analysts (examples of these articles can be found on the Resources/Insights page of Gro’s website) Serve as backup on agriculture when the Editor is out of the office or performing other tasks Work closely with Gro research analysts to suggest story ideas and assist the analysts in sharpening the stories’ focus  Dig deep with independent research using the data on Gro's platform to improve and strengthen stories Serve as the lead editor on Climate, under the direction of the Editor, working collaboratively with all relevant parties (science, policy, product, senior leadership, etc.) Work closely with Gro’s sales and marketing teams to amplify Gro’s message in all communications. Assist with content creation for product marketing campaigns including blog posts, case studies, and white papers  Post items on the Gro website to keep the editorial content up to date Edit various other Gro communications and technical writing created by different Gro specialist teams  Be flexible with changes in process of proposing and developing editorial content and seeking final approvals for new content in line with Gro’s business goals What We’re Looking For A talented editor enthusiastic about working in a fast-growing, collegial startup that is generating increased influence in the areas of food security and climate risk 5+ years of experience in business writing and editing, with a focus on interpreting technical material for an audience of industry professionals Solid understanding of general business concepts, financial markets and at least some knowledge of agricultural commodity markets  Strong ideas, loosely held  Brings ideas to the table Starts with ‘yes’ on feedback  Respects and appreciates expertise of colleagues and their requests and inputs  Strong editorial judgment; ability to rapidly absorb complex ideas and distill them into accessible copy for global audiences A detail-oriented and highly accurate approach, particularly when communicating data-driven topics   Experience telling a story with data; adept at using Excel  Exceptional organizational skills and flexibility; ability to independently manage multiple projects Nice to Have Strong knowledge of agricultural commodity markets Knowledge of climate-related topics including IPCC forecast scenarios Compensation  The salary range for this role is expected to be $90,000 - $130,000. Other compensation for the role includes equity, a generous PTO policy and health, vision & dental insurance.   Gro was founded in 2014 and currently has offices in Nairobi, New York, and Singapore.
