Position Overview
The Assistant Controller, reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer, is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, principally responsible for all general ledger-related activities in compliance with Diligent accounting policies, statutory compliance activities (including international indirect tax and statutory financial audits), and accounts payable operations.
The Assistant Controller will be a member of the Accounting Leadership Team and manage both the general ledger team and accounts payable teams, which most team members are based in the Company’s European Hub located in Galway, Ireland. You will work with Corporate Accounting, Revenue Operations, FP&A, and other cross functional teams outside the office of the CFO to close the books, ensuring accurate and timely accruals are made. The Assistant Controller will also actively participate in the integration of accounting operations when Diligent completes acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including the monthly financial statement close process
Supervise the general ledger group to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting, and ensure all deadlines are met while maintaining all proper reconciliations and documentation
Oversee the Accounts Payable team, ensuring proper expense and cash flow management
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the business operations, financial reporting, processes, controls, and the general ledger structure for all of Diligent’s legal entities
Mentor, train, and provide career path and development opportunity for the team
Manage the global statutory audit process in coordination with the Tax department and external auditors
Ensure accurate and timely filings for international indirect taxes
Support corporate accounting and other accounting operations as needed
Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders throughout the organization
Develop and implement continuous process improvement initiatives making accounting processes and controls more accurate and efficient while maintaining and enhancing business reporting initiatives
Required Experience/Skills:
Degree in accounting
CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent required
Knowledge of U.S. GAAP required
Experience with statutory and tax compliance in the UK and EU required, other international jurisdictions preferred.
Minimum of 10 years’ of progressive accounting experience (Big 4 and/or in-house controllership organization) with a demonstrated increase of responsibilities and leadership, preferably in the technology industry.
Experienced with accounting concepts related to the software industry, international accounting, and mergers & acquisitions is strongly preferred.
Proven ability working cross-functionally and cross-geography with diverse groups.
Strong written and oral communication and ability to relate and communicate effectively across all levels of staff inside and outside the department.
Hands-on, energetic, organized, team player with proven ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment and facilitate change, multitask effectively and work independently.
Ability to prioritize projects, quickly determine the requirements to accomplish them, and analyze the processes to figure out how to simplify, automate, and improve them for increased efficiency.
Excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and a strong sense of strong business ethics.
