ROLE SUMMARY
To manage and ensure smooth running of Quality in the Rivian Automotive Assembly Plant. The Manager of quality steering (Manufacturing Quality Control) will oversee and manage resolution for all internal quality issues. The Manager position is to lead, plan, organize and coordinate the overall activities of the Quality steering and metrics Team. The Manager will be accountable for a team of Quality Engineers to improve overall quality performance for the Factory. This position requires the ability to work with cross-functional teams to develop procedures and standards. Requires technical decision making on production vehicles. In addition, to be a key influencer for the creation of a positive quality culture. This position requires a deep understanding of the automotive quality and problem-solving tools in order to build and develop a highly effective team. This position will report to our Sr. Manager, Quality Steering within our Quality Org at our Normal, IL plant. This position will be in our Normal, IL MFG plant and will report to the Quality Sr. Manager in our Quality Department
RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice processes. Vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on operational activities.
Manage Quality Holds within the Factory
Maintain Rivian Concern system.
Manage issue product containments.
Lead Quality investigation and improvements
Provide reporting of status to respective assigned group
Assist in developing processes and standards
Lead cross functional problem-solving teams
Implement all relevant procedures described in the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance
Support development of dashboards with quality metrics.
Continuously improve procedures to meet the needs of customer quality.
Respond to quality issues and steer, full analysis, poka-yokes (error proofing), and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures
Update quality documentation and communicate to carry forward lessons learned from quality concerns.
Establish and refine quality sign-off instructions, standards and documentation
Report against agreed quality metrics
Produce written reports and make presentations
Undertake continuous training and development
Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility
Help set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering, Quality, Business, or Technical Bachelor-Degree, OR 5+ year’s experience in manufacturing environment.
Significant experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
Cross-functional operations in a manufacturing setting
Leadership experience preferred
Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
Creative problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Process experience
Demonstrated project management skills.
High proficiency in computer technology and systems operations.
APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) experience.
8D or similar method problem solving experience.
Manufacturing/Assembly process experience.
High proficiency with DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plans.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Statistical process control / control charts.
Good electronic communication software skills (MS Office, Minitab, email, etc.).
