We are looking for a Distinguished Software Architect to set the technical vision for the Building Design product portfolio, lead a Software Architect team, and coordinate across the AEC portfolio and Autodesk. In this role you will be responsible for creating a compelling technical vision, and a strategy for achieving that vision, to deliver compelling value for our customers and achieve business outcomes. It will involve managing a portfolio of products at different stages of their lifecycle, and how to best evolve this technology into the future. ResponsibilitiesTechnical Vision & StrategySynthesize and communicate a compelling technical vision encompassing desktop computing evolution, data strategy, scalable and distributed computation, and the application of AI technologies while devising pragmatic, incremental plans towards this visionApply your architectural and system knowledge to influence strategy, planning, and executionTake direct accountability for making technology decisions, as well as driving decision making among the software architects and stakeholdersDrive efforts to build secure systems that respect privacy while meeting reliability, performance, and other operational goalsLead re-use of platform capabilities and drive contributions to the Autodesk platformArchitectural Design & StandardsDefine and evolve the components, relationships, and governing principles that define the architecture of our systemsStrong interface and data modeling design skills, applying concepts of coupling and cohesionEnsure the establishment and execution of standards and practices for software design; define views, diagrams, and other formalisms used to explore and articulate designsMaintain and apply expert-level, up-to-date knowledge of relevant architectural patterns and technologiesCreate trustworthy technology by ensuring the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications and architecturesCollaboration & Strategic Problem SolvingKeeps strategic priorities top of mind and works to align architectural work so as to support those goalsCollaborate with other software architects, product managers, and user experience leaders to develop strategic solutions to handle complex problems and specify systems interactionsConsistently demonstrates sound and pragmatic technical judgment, soliciting feedback from stakeholders and weighing multiple factorsWork with peers throughout Autodesk to understand our technology landscape and challenges, articulate opportunities, and evangelize changeMaintain one-on-one relationships with peers across Autodesk to understand our technology landscape and challenges, articulate opportunities, and promote changeLead or participate in company-wide technical working groupsCommunication & Knowledge SharingCommunicate effectively and proactively on technical topics to varied audiences, including executive leadership and customersWrite and speak internally on your work, with an option for external communicationsMastery of taking complex ideas and conveying them in a concise and impactful mannerExcellent verbal, written communication, and presentation abilities to effectively communicate software architecture strategy to a variety of stakeholdersFoster a culture of knowledge sharing amongst the software architect and technical leadersPlay a leading role in Autodesk technical conferences and forumsTravel at least four times per year to attend internal conferences and forums, and to meet with geographically distributed development teamsPeople Leadership & Team DevelopmentLead, inspire, coach, and manage a team of Software Architects across a global organizationEnsure a cohesiveness and excellence in the practice of software architecture and technical excellenceBe a role model for communication with internal stakeholders and customers, from telling our strategy, to facilitating alignment towards shared goals, and handling challenging situationsEnsure self and team is recognized as trusted partners with internal stakeholders at all levelsMinimum QualificationsA bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent experienceA minimum of 10 years of experience as a software architect, with at least 5 years in cloud softwareA track record of delivering desktop and cloud software, spanning products and industriesAn ability and desire to get things done without the need for external deadlines or daily oversightProven ability to organize and delegate the design and execution of systems that are larger than a single personSought out by other teams, leaders, and customers for their expertiseRecognized for innovative work, such as via patents and publicationsDemonstrated ability to transform the software architecture practices for a group of architects and engineersPreferred QualificationsAn advanced degree in computer scienceExperience transforming enterprise level desktop applications to cloudExperience leading or managing an architecture teamExperience in AI/MLAn industry expert in and contributor to software architecture practiceExperience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industryLearn MoreAbout AutodeskWelcome to Autodesk! For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $189,000 and $305,800. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range.
