Role Summary
A Staff Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for the generation of a strategic plan to improve the business processes and ensure compliance to RIVIAN Quality Policies and Processes used to implement Rivian Quality Strategy as well support the development and implementation of quality tools and procedures. This position will also serve in a Lead Auditor function for the site and will be responsible for evaluating the performance of the internal processes against written standards, procedures, work instructions and drive improvements from the findings with relevant stakeholders. Ensure adherence to quality standards, quality plans and procedures, review and record objective evidence of audits. This position will be responsible for building Rivian QMS system and help to write functional policies, procedures and work instructions. In addition, this resource will assist the Quality Manager to provide mentorship to Junior level Quality Systems Engineer in the group.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance to RIVIAN Quality Policies and Processes to implement Quality Strategy.
Verify consistency within processes and systems, lead data driven improvement and/or change in process to meet requirements.
Responsible to lead internal audit program performing internal audits for Enterprise Quality and manufacturing processes as well external audits in supplier or other external processes/companies as needed; determine, track, and deliver audit KPIs.
Perform internal audits, layered process and product audits to evaluate performance against internal policies, procedures, standards, work instructions, etc. and track audit findings to closure.
Prepare internal audit report, document and record audit findings, follow up and track for on time resolution.
Maintain RIVIAN Quality system, layered process audit schedule and corrective actions database.
Assist leadership team to resolve any issue impacting customer and/or RIVIAN Quality system requirements.
Collaborate with cross functional team to evaluate and prevent any compliance issues or concerns affecting RIVIAN Quality.
Support Customer and/or external audits and track findings to closure.
Act as resource for promoting and monitoring of the Quality Management System.
Guide manufacturing plant during regulatory and/or certification processes.
Ensure adherence to quality standards, quality plans and procedures, review and record objective evidence of audits.
Help write functional policies, procedures and work instructions to help with QMS buildout.
Lead cross functional problem-solving teams to drive systemic corrective actions to closure.
Work as part of a team or leader for cost reduction initiatives and/or improvement projects
Creation of training material for quality-related topics
Perform training for Rivian employees and business partners
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or related field.
7+ years’ experience in Manufacturing, Quality Systems and process background, including Advance Product Quality Planning, Manufacturing and Launch Process, QMS Auditing, Problem Solving, Lean methods, Project Management, etc.
ISO 9001, IATF 16949 QMS Lead Auditor Certification required.
Knowledge and experience with AIAG core tools required
VDA 6.3, VDA 6.5 or similar Process Auditor Certification, a plus.
ASQ CQA Certifications, a plus.
Ability to perform Special process audits AIAG CQI’s is a plus.
Previous experience with assembly manufacturing process is a plus
Experience leading internal audit programs and EU/CCC CoP and certification activities.
Experience launching quality systems with cross-functional teams.
Experience with leading large-scale continuous improvement activities.
Experience providing training for quality tools and procedures.
Ability to manage multiple projects across varying geographic locations.
Willingness to work in a strong cross functional environment.
Proven technical knowledge and ability to collaborate with development teams.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing / production environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
High proficiency in computer technology and systems operations.
6 Sigma greenbelt or blackbelt desired.
Metrology experience is desired
Experience with special process such as Welding, Coating, Casting Molding, Plating, Soldering, Heat Treat is desired
