Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.  ROLE SUMMARY The Senior Manager of Energy Storage Systems - Advanced Product Quality will lead the Advanced Product Quality (APQ) function for Product Design, Development, Validation, Launch, Warranty, and Continuous Improvement for Energy Storage Systems (ESS), driving prediction, prevention, and protection of Quality issues and risk mitigation solutions. This opening is located at our Irvine, CA facility and will directly report to the Director of Propulsion Quality. RESPONSIBILITES Responsible for the High Voltage (HV) battery systems quality, coordinating & collaborating with team members  across multiple disciplines to ensure a high level of product quality and reliability through implementing APQ  design quality processes focusing on the following aspects of the HV ESS:  Cell quality requirements and attributes liaising with the Cell Engineering team in the ESS Department Contribute to robust design specification of Battery Management System (BMS) software and controls  engineering development process Contribute to Pack and Module electrical architecture and mechanical design quality requirements  working with ESS Electromechanical design engineering teams Support verification of ESS thermal performance in collaboration with the wider ESS and Propulsion  teams Contribute to ESS testing strategy for system & component level design validation and production  environment end of line verification processes Partner with Supplier Quality to drive supply chain performance and continuous improvement Lead ESS Quality Engineering activities to support new and live programs for issue resolution and  coordination of effective closed loop corrective action Influence future ESS strategy and development of technology roadmaps with regards to industry lessons learned  for manufacturing, test, service, reliability and product quality Evaluate new emerging battery chemistries/technologies and develop relevant quality considerations Establish strategic objectives with engineering to deliver products with exceptional quality Manage and Lead a Quality Engineering team of domain SMEs in delivery of HV battery systems and cell quality  engineering deliverables: Determine, track and deliver key KPI’s to achieve quality targets and goals Manage and continually improve APQ gated process requirements for ESS products Collaborate with ESS Engineering and vehicle test & validation teams to verify decomposition and test  definition of battery systems requirements into sub-system and cell level requirements Confirm dimensional controls and effective tolerance validation across all design Participate in ESS DFMEA and DVP deliverables development in collaboration with ESS Engineering Manage Prototype build quality processes and KPI reporting to achieve early design quality learning Oversee AIAG AQPQ Elements for risk identification & mitigation Lead APQ transition to production activities working with integrators and the supply chain in collaboration  with supplier quality to achieve a high level of process and product quality Collaborating with manufacturing engineering and manufacturing quality to iterate quality planning and  prototype processes to production process and quality level Quickly transition the APQ team and cross-functional organizations into ESS level problem solving in  response to new or ongoing risks or issues from cross sub-system projects to specific component focus,  depending on need of the team, perceived risk and stage of development/ production QUALIFICATIONS BS/MS degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline Minimum of 10 years engineering and/or quality work experience including Battery and/or Automotive industries Expert knowledge of Lithium-Ion battery systems behavior, degradation, failure modes and High Voltage Safety Expert Knowledge of latest cell options and their relevant application in battery systems design Experience in Battery Management System FW, mix of QA & Development Detailed understanding of mechanical HV battery design, electrochemical performance of battery cells, manufacturing of battery cells, electromechanical pack assemblies and integration of battery packs into vehicle Measurement systems experience (Gage R&R, process capability, design validation, quality control) Creating the quality requirements from the ground up, using engineering analysis Expertise in accelerated-life-test development methods for battery modules/packs Excellent statistical and problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense Demonstrated quality improvements using structured problem solving Knowledge of AIAG, APQP and related tools Previous experience in automotive product development environments Previous experience launching large volume automotive electronics systems Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing Demonstrated leadership of technical teams Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g., JAMA, Doors, etc.) Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required Salary Range for California Based Applicants : $168,000 - $193,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
