Lead Safety Engineer

Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.  Role Summary The Lead Safety Engineer will be involved with the design and specifications for new machinery and equipment for Engineering & Manufacturing sites. This role will also be an active participant in equipment acceptance testing and commissioning as well as evaluating proposed changes to equipment and machinery for safety requirements. Responsibilities Work with engineering, operations, and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities​ Develop equipment safety standards where needed and continuously improve existing standards​ Complete risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Rivian standards​ Conduct equipment safety buy-offs with a cross-functional team​ Identify opportunities and suggest corrective actions for continuous improvement ​ Create and deliver training related to equipment and machinery safety​ Work with department EHS staff to support the shop as needed​ Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, etc. as needed​ Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in ABET-accredited Engineering program. 5-8 years of equipment safety experience, risk assessments, and equipment commissioning​ is preferred. Automated manufacturing experience in a high-volume facility ​is required. Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO, and other applicable standards​ is required. Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluating performance level & circuit structure ​is required. CFSP/CFSE​ proficiency is preferred. Working knowledge of equipment maintenance, inspection, and testing requirements per state requirements and best practice guidance (API, ASME, ASTM standards) is preferred. Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, and hazardous material inventories is preferred. Competent skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Autodesk AutoCad.  Minimum of five years in the field or applicable work experience. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. In the performance of the duties of this job, the employee is required to travel, and drive a motor vehicle.
