Astera Labs Inc. is seeking a skilled and proactive Hardware Lab Technician to join our dynamic hardware team in developing world class connectivity products.
Job Description
This role works closely with and supports various teams within our lab, including designers and test/validation engineers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to manage various responsibilities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage critical inventories of Astera products, tools, consumables, and peripherals, including purchasing, organizing, monitoring, and forecasting
Coordinate equipment calibrations with external vendors; schedule and perform basic preventative maintenance internally
Assemble, inspect, and validate modules/subassemblies to ensure functionality and quality
Assemble and disassemble server racks, wire shelves, and tradeshow materials
Soldering and rework of high-density PCBAs
Maintain lab organization for optimal productivity of lab users
Monitor compliance to lab policies, including ESD, cleanliness, food/drink, etc.
Assist engineers with various other hands-on tasks
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in a hardware lab environment or equivalent to semiconductor environment
Experience managing inventory, coordinating equipment calibration, performing solder rework, and/or related tasks
Associate’s degree or equivalent technical certification in electronics, electrical engineering, or similar field
OR
an additional 3+ years of experience
Ability to interpret electrical schematics sufficiently to perform solder rework
Self-starter with a strong bias towards action and the ability to work both independently and as a team on novel challenges
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs safely
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or similar field
Experience in lab management, including inventory management/forecasting and asset tracking,
Skilled in 0201 (01005 preferred) soldering and rework, including advanced techniques for high-density boards
Fluency in interpreting circuit schematics and board layouts (e.g. via Cadence Allegro)
Ability to troubleshoot and debug PCBAs using standard test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies)
Experience setting up and troubleshooting rack-mounted servers
Ability to clearly document and communicate debug related findings and measurement results
The hourly pay range is $46.15 – $67.31 USD. Your exact rate will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions.
