Position Description:
Alamar Biosciences, a leader in next-generation proteomic tools, is seeking an exceptionally talented and detail-oriented R&D Lab Manager with proven laboratory operations (Lab Ops) experience. This role is ideal for a highly organized, proactive individual who thrives in dynamic research environments and is passionate about enabling scientific innovation through exceptional lab management. Previous experience managing large and complex R&D labs in dynamic, fast-paced environments is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant work environment for R&D activities
Oversee procurement, inventory management, and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment; manage vendor relationships and service contracts
Manage calibration and preventive maintenance for all R&D equipment, keeping detailed records and ensuring no lapse in performance
Act as the primary point of contact for laboratory safety, conducting regular safety audits, training, and compliance checks
Supervise onboarding, training, and ongoing support for laboratory staff, fostering a culture centered on operational excellence
Develop, implement, and regularly review Lab Ops protocols, SOPs, and best practices to align with company and regulatory standards
Partner with scientists and cross-functional teams to proactively identify and remove logistical barriers, supporting timely project delivery and efficient lab operation
Continuously assess lab workflows and resource utilization, recommending and implementing improvements to maximize operational efficiency
Ensure compliant disposal of hazardous and biological materials, upholding all environmental, health, and safety requirements
Demonstrate flexibility by taking on new Lab Ops-related responsibilities and adapting quickly to evolving business needs
Qualifications & Skills:
BA or MS in a scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, biotechnology, or related field) with 5+ years of hands-on experience in laboratory operations (Lab Ops) and/or lab management in the biotech or life sciences sector
Extensive knowledge of laboratory workflow optimization, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing laboratory challenges
Commitment to upholding the highest standards of laboratory safety, compliance, and operational excellence
Demonstrated ability to track and manage lab resources, budgets, and purchasing processes
Exceptional organization, project management, and time management skills
Proven track record of effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
Practical experience with laboratory management software (e.g., LIMS, ELN) and standard office tools
Adaptable and comfortable embracing new Lab Ops processes, technologies, and shifting responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of the molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques underpinning Alamar’s core technologies
Experience with automated liquid handling instruments
Ability to mentor and train lab staff in the operation and maintenance of specialized scientific instrumentation
Direct experience performing or supporting advanced immunoassays, NGS, and qPCR
The base salary range for this full-time position is $100,000 - $125,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The ranges displayed on each job posting reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries but are subject to change if the leveling of the role is adjusted.
