Principal Software Engineer

The Principal Software Engineer for GRC at Workiva directs the strategic vision for advancing our GRC solution and models and promotes inclusivity within their team and the wider company. They offer expertise and mentorship within the domain, driving progress through collaboration and technical acumen. They will be key in planning migration away from legacy technologies.What You'll DoShape the strategic engineering roadmap for GRCLead and contribute to communities of practice Advise Workiva leadership and stakeholders on GRC technical strategies Mentor junior engineers while establishing team standards and processes Collaborate with product teams Forecast and coordinate development timelines, ensuring timely deliverables Manage backlogs and resolve interdependencies with other product teams Contribute to monitoring and performance testing Troubleshoot and debug components across diverse service and application contexts Assist support teams in resolving production issues and participate in on-call rotations Conduct code reviews and engage external stakeholders in ensuring solution quality Communicate complex technical issues effectively to diverse audiences Collaborate with software architects, data experts, and product managers to design comprehensive software products meeting varied needsWhat You’ll NeedRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experienceMinimum 8 years of software engineering experiencePreferred QualificationsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projectsProven track record of problem-solving and decision-making in ambiguous situationsProficiency in Java, GO, or similar languagesFamiliarity with Git or equivalent version control systemsExperience with Docker, preferably Kubernetes, and cloud platforms like AWSAgile/Sprint working environment experienceSolid foundation in computer science principles and cloud-based distributed systemsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaborationProficiency in debugging complex systems and knowledge of web protocolsUnderstanding of commercial databases and systems performance tuningExperience in production-level testing and optimizing models for scalabilityTravel Requirements & Working Conditions  Minimal (<10%) travel for customer research or collaborationReliable internet access for remote working opportunitiesHow You’ll Be Rewarded✅ Salary range in the US: $167,000.00 - $284,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits packageThe salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US.
