Working with Illumina’s Chemistry Development, Consumables, Software, and Engineering teams, you will be responsible for system level troubleshooting of sequencing instruments and giving feedback to respective groups to ensure project deliverables are met.Responsibilities:Use mechanical, optical, fluidics, electronics, and organic chemistry knowledge to troubleshoot electro-mechanical equipment issuesAssist project teams with system level instrument testing and ancillary equipment supportTrack instrument performance at system and sub-system level and analyze data trendsProvide feedback of information to sub-system owners and assist teams with system improvementsParticipate in root-cause analysis experiments and present findings to project teamsConduct or assist with experimentation related to risk and hazard analysis in order to refine requirements and improve system designLearn and understand new instruments and create maintenance/service programs to provide continually improving equipment availabilityWork with engineers to develop and implement procedures to reduce or eliminate sources of systematic equipment failuresEducation: BS/MS in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or System EngineeringPreferred Skills & Experience:0-2+ years relevant experienceWork experience in biotech or medical device field desiredHands-on experience with commercial electro-mechanical equipmentSolid understanding of complex optical and laser systemsGood data analysis skills and a logical approach to problem solving skills requiredExperience with statistical analysis and data analysis programs (JMP, MATLAB, Microsoft Excel) is a plusAbility to communicate and document equipment issuesAbility to learn new tasks quicklyOccasional travel required, no more than 5%Must be able to lift 25lbs.All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.#LI-ONSITEThe estimated base salary range for the Systems Support Engineer 1 role based in the United States of America is: $73,400 - $110,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
