AppleCare is the organization at Apple that delights our customers with great support and creative service solutions. AppleCare Engineering (ACE) is the technical team responsible for assuring that all Apple products are repaired in a way that will continue to delight our customers.
The ACE team is looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer with a background in product, fixture, packaging design and program management. Description Description You will be part of a multi-functional mechanical design team that evaluates new products in development, helps develop and validate their repair processes, and designs and deploys tools, jigs, fixtures and packaging to support said processes and validation.
A typical day may consist of detailed CAD design on a repair fixture, assisting with design layout and review of a component packaging design, helping run a DOE to validate the efficacy of a tool or fixture, and then presenting a program schedule update that includes a BOM with multiple vendors across the world.
You will also lead China-based vendors and engineering build support to validate tools with Apple contract manufacturers.
Approximately 10% international travel required, mostly Asia. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications BS degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Experience developing & crafting purely mechanical systems and/or electro-mechanical systems, assemblies, tools, fixtures - even at the academic or research level NX, SolidWorks or other CAD software experience Experienced in both component and system design Materials selection experience Experience designing / basic DFM principles for plastic parts: molding, machining, 3D printing, extruding, thermoforming , compression molding Experience designing / basic DFM principles for metal parts: stamping, casting, machining, extruding, forging, MIM, EDM, welding, anodizing Experience designing, running and presenting data for experiments (DOE) to validate process, tools, design & fixture efficacy Ability to craft 2D drawings with FAI / CPK / GD&T practices Hands-on prototyping, assembling, testing & troubleshooting Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with with focus on materials, manufacturing, dynamics, controls, robotics and / or design Experience creating thorough product requirement docs for electromechanical systems including mechanical system layout, operational flows, software and EE integration Experience creating and managing BOMs, part tracking lists, and design revisions & schedules effectively Experience creating and releasing MCOs for PCB designs within electro-mechanical systems Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills Ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience Flexible and capable of handling multiple projects concurrently Self-motivated and enthusiastic with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities. Skillfully manage rapid development cycles; flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty and/or ambiguity. Collaborative and able to fit in well with a team, understand capabilities and priorities while fostering a team environment. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $119,900 and $181,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
