This position reports to the Greater China EHS manager and the individual will be based in Shanghai, China.All About YouPosition Responsibilities:Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of China EHS programs and processes. Programs can include, but are not limited to Risk Assessment, Hazard Communication, Chemical management, lab inspections, hazardous wastes tracking, Ergonomics, Incident Management, and Occupation Health.Partner with site/region functional areas to implement methods, programs, controls, processes, training, and safeguards which promote compliance and engage all employees in EHS programs.EHS program subject matter expert (SME) at the site/regional level.Conduct Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.  Ensure hazard identification, near misses, injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure among the site/regional functional areas.  Sets expectations and drives accountability for basic corrective actions and tasks.Maintain metrics that measure the performance of China EHS programs, compliance, and risk management. Partner with stakeholders on EHS performance.Works on assignments with multiple variables, potential outcomes and customers.Applies department policies and procedures to resolve a variety of task-based issues with site or regional scope.Partners with global and regional EHS and local teams in implementation of EHS management system.EHS system administration and management (i.e. EHS software or tools).Engaged in employee trainings (i.e. emergency drills, new-hire orientation, etc.)Actively participates in strategy and development planning for system application of EHS policy.Be the Trusted Advisor – collaborate, partner with, and influence internal stakeholders on EHS matters.Support negotiations with both internal and external parties (i.e. interface with regulatory agencies, EHS relevant vendor management, etc.).Advocate for EHS initiatives and promotes safety culture through engagement with functional leadership and teams (i.e. EHS month or other EHS-led events).Support site safety committees, emergency response teams and Operational Excellence activities. Other projects and activities as assigned and or needed.Position Requirements:Intermediate experience in site or region EHS programs – risk assessment, incident investigation and so on.Strong verbal and written communication skills in English & Mandarin.Thrives in a fast paced, dynamic, cross functional and highly collaborative environment.Initiative with good sense of responsibility, self-driven and independence.Strong interpersonal skills.Strong teamwork skills across a team operating regionally and globally.Ability to establish goals, prioritize and execute work among competing priorities.Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or closely related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience.Preferred background and diverse experience in biotech/pharmaceutical or relevant industry.Certified National Safety Engineer is preferred.Knowledge in ISO 14001 & 45001 management system is a plus.Illumina believes that everyone has the ability to make an impact, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to providing employment opportunity regardless of sex, race, creed, color, gender, religion, marital status, domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, pregnancy, military or veteran status, citizenship status, and genetic information.
