Legal, Risk, and Compliance at Valon
The Legal, Risk, and Compliance (LRC) department at Valon is responsible for interpreting and advising our company on the various legal, regulatory, and contractual provisions that impact the business. Given how heavily regulated the mortgage industry is, compliance and risk management sit at the very core of our business. The team partners closely with our operations, finance, and technology teams to provide the applicable legal and compliance expertise and frameworks that help inform the decisions that the business makes. As a member of the LRC team, you will work closely with internal clients across the company to ensure that Valon’s interests are protected.
About the Role
We are looking to add an experienced Director to our Compliance team. In this role, you will be responsible for handling compliance matters as we rapidly scale our loan portfolio and build the technology platform that will continue to transform the mortgage industry.
Valon is seeking to redefine the homeownership experience by building better technology. To that end, you will work cross-functionally across the business to operationalize and scale our compliance operations. Your day-to-day focus will be on optimizing compliance processes and proactively identifying and resolving compliance issues. Part of your role will involve building out scalable processes to respond to audits and exams as well as ensuring that our company maintains the licenses it needs to operate.
We are looking for someone who is excited to roll up their sleeves and dive into the weeds. The right candidate is extremely detail-oriented, has excellent organizational and leadership skills, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role requires someone who can work independently as well as build out and run a team.
Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day compliance operations for the mortgage business
Continue to enhance process for handling audits and exams to be scalable and efficient
Manage external exams and audits to ensure Valon’s success throughout each exam and audit
Proactively identify compliance issues via comprehensive compliance testing framework and track remediation to resolution
Ensure that Valon maintains all necessary licensing and conducts all necessary compliance reporting with robust processes and frameworks
Streamline and execute on due diligence processes for vendors
Own the vendor management framework
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the mortgage servicing industry and keep up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes
Work closely with other departments, including operations, product, and engineering, to ensure compliance
Ideal Background
Deep understanding of the mortgage servicing and lending industry, including regulatory compliance and risk management
Previous in-house compliance or operational experience with mortgage servicer
Previous experience interfacing with state and federal regulators on examinations
Experience setting up scalable and efficient operational processes
Experience creating and drafting policies, procedures and control documents
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and at all levels of the organization
Excellent attention to detail
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive complex projects to completion
Ability to operationalize and scale complex processes

This Base Compensation pay range applies to our New York City located staff and may differ according to location. New York Base Compensation Pay Range $127,500 — $172,500 USD
