The Maps Services engineering team is building the processing foundations and services that drive the world’s best mobility and navigation experience that preserves our customers’ privacy. Our team is responsible for building Apple’s navigation, traffic, and incidents detection systems, empowering users to get to their destinations well-informed, comfortably, safely, and quickly. We are a high-powered team with years of research and product development experience. We are looking for a seasoned Senior Architect who can work with key stakeholders within the organization to drive the technology strategy for our platform’s future capabilities. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Experience working on navigation systems, route computation, route quality, algorithms in transportation networks such as road graphs, road traffic and incident processing, or similar. Strong expertise in the areas of graph algorithm engineering and large data processing pipelines. Design of low latency systems with graceful degradation characteristics, resilience, and reliability. Mastery of quantitative approaches (modeling, iterative prototyping, analysis, tools) to architect robust secure high performance services that meet demanding goals. Writing high performance code using in languages such as C++ and Scala, Python and R for tool support and visualization. Description Description Lead the design and engineering of strong technical foundations across traffic & incidents processing, route planning, and navigation services. Create new technical capabilities that serve as building blocks for new and improved features that surprise and delight our customers. Take responsibility for improving the quality of our existing offering across all modes of transportation (driving, transit, walking, cycling, and mixed modalities). Lead the iterative and data-driven research and exploration of new approaches for existing or new areas of consideration. Lead the investigation and resolution of high product impact issues. Work across multiple engineering, HI and product teams to help set the future direction of the product. Communicate timelines and set expectations with others under uncertainty. Mentor and advise junior as well as other senior coworkers on the best next step taken in explorations and when to try something new. Education & Experience Education & Experience MS or PhD in computer science, mathematics, or related fields and 10+ years of experience. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $189,800.00 and $346,300.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
