Calix provides the cloud, software platforms, systems and services required for communications service providers to simplify their businesses, excite their subscribers and grow their value.Our team is growing and we’re looking for a Principal Architect to play a significant role in architecture design and implementation, leveraging hands-on technical leadership to drive our innovative cybersecurity features. As part of our high performing global team, this role is critical to our growth and reports into the Vice President, Cybersecurity Product Engineering. This is a remote-based position that can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada.Responsibilities and Duties:Work closely with product owners to understand, analyze product requirements, and provide feedback.Research, prototyping and development of advanced cybersecurity features aimed at protecting millions of homes and businesses.Collaborates with other engineering and product leads to drive the evolution of our real-time network security architecture (packet capture, pattern matching, anomaly detection, policy enforcement) across our suite of network appliances.Technical leadership of software design that meets the requirements of service stability, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and security.Guide all aspects of technical discussions within engineering and make technical recommendations.Design and code review with peer engineers.Guide testing architecture to drive shift-left efficiency and quality.Design scalable technology solutions that adjust to cyclical business patterns.Keep abreast of latest trends and shifts within the technology and digital spaces.Work effectively in areas of ambiguity and create solutions to complex problems.Identify, communicate, and connect with key decision-makers and use strong influencing skills while partnering with cross-functional teams to drive and implement change.Qualifications:15+ years of experience architecting, coding, and evolving high-performance real-time network security and intelligence software products.10+ years leading solution design of several large sized projects of moderate to high complexity, providing a baseline set of design artifacts for use by developers and engineers during construction.Deep understanding and practical experience with Linux Kernel networking internals.Experience developing networking solutions in both kernel and user space.Experience providing thought leadership in technical architecture (e.g., tool selection, standards, strategic direction, etc.) having functioned as an Enterprise Architect or Principal Architect within a large organization.Experience working as a hands-on enterprise application architect implementing architecture integration roadmaps through all phases of the project lifecycle.Ability to create and maintain architectural models and technical design documentation, which includes current and future state process flows, applications/database objects, specifications that detail proposed database and/or data integration implementations.Knowledge and experience designing solutions with one or more of VPP, DPDK, XDP, eBPF, iptables/ebtables/nftables, qdiscs, hardware accelerators.Expert level understanding and experience working with L2-L7 protocol details.Knowledge and experience with high-performance pattern matching techniques, including compiler work for building DFAs and NFAs.History of introducing new/emerging technology to disrupt business models.Proven success creating business-enabling technology roadmaps.Organized and goal-focused, ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment.#LI-RemoteCompensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States.
