Design DirectorDescription -Job Summary• This role is responsible for providing strategic leadership to a team of managers and top contributors in engineering solutions, aligning with business goals and technology roadmaps. The role optimizes processes for value, quality, and productivity, overseeing resource allocation and budgets. The role collaborates across functions, communicates status, influences decisions, and manages outsourced partnerships. The role champions initiatives for process improvement and cost reduction, while ensuring adherence to standards and nurturing team growth.Responsibilities• Provides direct and ongoing strategic leadership to multiple subordinate managers and high-level individual contributors designing and developing engineering solutions for products, systems, software, and solutions.• Creates strategic and tactical operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities for assigned organization based on business and technology roadmap and functional objectives.• Optimizes development processes and methodology that ensure a high level of value, productivity, quality and reliability.• Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for the organization, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated.• Ensures goals, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with organizational metrics and business plans.• Demonstrates broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance across engineering department.• Engages with program managers, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate program status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making• Manages senior relationships and escalated issues with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that organization is effectively leveraging outsourced resources.• Identifies opportunities for and drives organizational initiatives and programs to support business process improvements and cost reductions.• Manages standards and requirements for product simulations, processes, architecture documents and procedures to ensure reliability, accuracy and thorough gathering, analysis and interpretation of data.• Provides overall people-care management for direct reports, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development.• Drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development.Education & Experience Recommended• Four-year or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.• Typically has 12+ years of job-related and/or management experience, preferably in engineering design, engineering design tools and software packages, or a related field.Preferred Certifications• Product Certification• Professional Engineer (PE) LicenseKnowledge & Skills• Agile Methodology• Amazon Web Services• Angular (Web Framework)• Application Programming Interface (API)• Automation• CI/CD• Computer Science• DevOps• Java (Programming Language)• JavaScript (Programming Language)• Kubernetes• Machine Learning• Microservices• Python (Programming Language)• React.js• Scalability• Software Development• Software Development Life Cycle• Software Engineering• SQL (Programming Language)Cross-Org Skills• Customer Centricity• Prioritization• Resilience• Team Management• Strategic ThinkingImpact & Scope• Impacts multiple functions and may act as a lead to peers on cross-functional project teams working to establish and execute business goals.Complexity• Contributes to the development of company objectives and achieves goals through subordinate high-level individual contributors and managers.Disclaimer• This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed in this role.
