Sr. Process EngineerStatus: Exempt (Salaried)     Department: EngineeringPosition SummaryThe Sr. Process Engineer drives the development of new products and projects. The basic design of the system or plant is engineered by the process discipline and documented in various deliverables such as the Heat & Material Balance and PFD, before moving on to P&IDs, equipment datasheets and other documents and participating in Process Safety Reviews such as HAZOP.During procurement, detailed design as well as fabrication & testing / commissioning of the system, the Sr. Process Engineer supports where required. This can be in delivering more detailed documents for compliance, functional testing or documenting the operating procedures, but also in site support if required.As a Sr. Process Engineer at Plug you work in a very dynamic environment: the hydrogen business is still developing and the electrolyzers that Plug delivers are undergoing continuous improvements. On stand-alone electrolyzers for Plug&Play use or modular designs to deliver green hydrogen at the gigawatt scale for the decarbonization of steelmaking or fertilizer production, Plug is at the forefront of development. As all systems are undergoing further improvements and we ready ourselves for new series of systems suitable for even larger-scale solutions, Plug is looking for experienced Process Engineers to drive these developments. Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop process design for complete system for the project, being either a plug and play Plug electrolyzer system, or a complete plant (where required in consultation with third party engineering consultant)Develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, develop controls strategies, attend  Hazard and Operability Studies, and specify critical balance of plant components for hydrogen generating systemsInteract with other disciplines within Plug as well as with Client and third parties to ensure consistency in the designCreate manufacturing and service procedures as necessary to support the assembly, installation, and continuous operation of electrolyzer productsDevelop and maintain a detailed understanding of all Plug Power products’ designs and functionality to enable acting as a Subject Matter Expert for hydrogen generation systemsDevelop and lead projects for equipment cost reduction and efficiency improvementAct as Responsible Engineer and coordinate/collaborate with internal personnel for testing and deployments of new or modified technologyInterface with vendors as necessary to vet their offering, gain critical information for troubleshooting, or implement improvementsProvide guidance and technical expertise to component and automation engineers as to how overall system and individual equipment is meant to operateProvide expertise to assist the construction management team with drawing development and permitting as neededReview operational data and construction/assembly drawings to assist in complex troubleshooting efforts with field service personnelRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactionsPerform all other duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceBS degree in chemical, process or industrial engineeringA minimum of five (5) years working experience in a process design environmentAbility to travel occasionallyPossess computer/software skills as applicable to the position including but not limited to Unsim / Hysys, Autocad, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and VisioDriven and self-motivated with excellent follow-throughAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyAbility to role model high standards of professionalism with an uncompromising dedication to quality design & documentation and operational safetyDemonstrate analytical abilities with strong attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skillsDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
