Packaging EngineerDescription -Job Summary• This role is responsible for contributing to the packaging design of physical hardware products and systems and translating existing and new design ideas into tangible packaging structures & components. The role actively implements segments of packaging design plans, and ensures that it meets the criteria, scope, budget and schedule. The role is pivotal in enhancing design engineering processes, and facilitating the adoption of innovative solutions across design teams.Responsibilities• Designs packaging structures & develop packaging components that will protect product & will provide a great out of the box experience to end users. Packaging components and structures are based on established design principles and in accordance with design strategy, practices, and guidelines.• Translates established ideas and new designs into packaging concepts, such as sketches, prototypes, and models.• Develops and implements packaging design plans, changes, specifications, and reusable design elements for new and existing products.• Assists building of solutions for recurring process issues and improvement projects within design engineering processes and facilitates new solution implementation and adoption across the design teams.• Participates in ensuring that projects meet design criteria, scope, budget, and schedule; oversees planning, design, and modifications to equipment and facility systems.• Characterizes prototypes, follows test specifications and coordinates with test/product engineering to drive tests for packaging structures proposed.• Collaborates and communicates with internal and outsourced development partners on packaging design and development.• Participates as a member of project team of other designers and internal and outsourced design and development partners to develop holistic, high quality design solutions for low to moderately complex projects, products, and services.Education & Experience Recommended• Four-year or Graduate Degree in industrial Design, Packaging Design , or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.• Typically has 2-4 years of work experience, preferably in packaging design and development of physical hardware products and systems, or a related field or an advanced degree with little or no work experience.Preferred CertificationsNAKnowledge & Skills• 3D Modeling• Computer-Aided Design• SolidWorks (CAD)• Engineering Design Process• TOPS (Pallet configuration software)• Manufacturing Processes• New Product Development• Project Management• Prototyping• ISTA packaging test protocolsCross-Org Skills• Effective Communication• Results Orientation• Learning Agility• Customer Centricity (focus)Impact & Scope• Impacts immediate team and acts as an informed team member providing analysis of information and limited project direction input.Complexity• Responds to routine issues within established guidelines.Disclaimer• This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed in this role.
