We are seeking a Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our vivarium in Quincy, Massachusetts as we grow into a world-class facility. This role requires a passion for animal welfare, flexibility in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, and a strong commitment to providing the highest quality of care. You will function as part of a team of dedicated animal professionals, and your expertise will be valued. Experience in laboratory animal medicine is desired, but we welcome all specialties from veterinary clinical practice (e.g., Exotics, ECC, GP). This salaried full-time position is scheduled Sunday-Thursday; operational hours fall between 5:30am and 5:30pm per the facility light schedule. Holidays are staffed on a rotating schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform specialized duties [subdepartment: Nursing]
Plan and execute treatment plans in conjunction with the Attending Veterinarian
Oversee and perform daily medical case management
Conduct training of other staff members in recognizing medical cases and performing basic treatments
Ensure medical records are current, comprehensive, and readily available
Perform advanced procedures (e.g., abdominocentesis, necropsy, cytology)
Instruct Project Management and Scientific staff on dosing adjustments to safeguard animal health and safety
Ensure humane endpoints are respected for all animals
Maintain inventory of medical supplies
Maintain accurate, detailed daily records
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Assist in disinfection/sanitation of equipment and facility
Assist in daily husbandry tasks
Perform euthanasia techniques per AVMA guidelines (primary method: CO2)
Function within a high performing team with a strong focus on collaboration and communication
Participate in departmental and company meetings and presentations
Interface with laboratory, operations, and management staff
Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and help improve current processes
Follow Institutional, local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure proper animal care, health, and welfare
Other duties as assigned, which may include cross-training to support other roles
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) license required
2+ years of clinical experience preferred
Experience with rodents or other exotics preferred
Experience in an AAALAC accredited facility preferred
Proficiency in verbal and written English required
Additional certifications, such as VTS-LAM, SRA/SRT/SRS, or AALAS, are considered a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift 40lbs
Walk and stand for several hours per day
Perform repetitive motions (bend, squat, kneel, twist, reach above shoulder height, bottle capping, push/pull)
Perform quick, simple grasping motion with both hands for several hours per day
Wear full Personal Protective Equipment for several hours per day (mask, coveralls, gloves, shoe covers, hairnet)
