You will be responsible for successfully implementing new optical hardware and software features in collaboration with Systems Engineering and Software Development teams. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to study and analyze transmission performance of the world's most advanced commercial optical transponders and Infinera's flexible grid, C-band, SuperC-band and C+L band line system platforms.Key Responsibilities:Designing and validating link-level control algorithms and optical performance monitoring to optimize end-to-end optical performance. Analyzing and simulating optical line card performance and optimizing tradeoffs based on system design goals/metrics.Developing key specifications and baseline designs for new optical line system cards including optical amplifiers, ROADMs and optical multiplexersOwning the detailed hardware and software design documentation used by development, test and field teams. Reviewing with multi-site engineering teamsSupporting experimental analysis of component/module capabilities and technological feasibility of new platformsInvestigating transmission characteristics of Infinera’s long haul flex-grid line systems including signal power/OSNR evolution and fiber nonlinearitiesAnalyzing the impact of optical impairments (including chromatic dispersion, PDL, polarization transients, filtering, crosstalk, nonlinearities) on transmission of advanced coherent modulation formatsDeveloping system design rules and performance modelsKnowledge / Skills / AbilitiesHands-on experience with DWDM transmission systems including coherent transponders, EDFAs, Raman amplifiers and ROADMsKnowledge of advanced coherent modulation formats including practical experience with their transmission in long haul systemsExperience with automated data acquisition and analysis using high-speed electro-optic test and measurement equipmentExperience with long haul optical link design including power budgets, OSNR calculations, and transmission penaltiesExcellent communication and presentation skillsExcellent programming, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
