Job Requisition ID #24WD75831Position OverviewNinety percent of real estate development over the next decade will focus on existing buildings, according to sustainability experts. Reusing and renovating these structures through faster, more cost-effective, and sustainable methods will be one of the main challenges in designing the built environment. Can we apply modern methods of robotic construction to automate these renovation efforts, while also integrating sustainable approaches such as: material circularity, material passports, and adaptive reuse?As an intern with Autodesk Research, you will investigate the most impactful use cases for these industrialized renovation efforts. You will use 3d scanning/sensor technology and robotic platforms to prototype automated methods of collecting building data, establishing a foundation for how we renovate and repurpose the existing building stock. You will be part of a global team of researchers specializing in robotics, software engineering, and sustainable architecture, with access to the facilities and expertise of staff at Autodesk’s Boston Technology Center for prototyping and validating your proposed solutions.Responsibilities Be an active member of a team exploring new and advancing areas of research in the realm of Industrialized Construction and Net-Zero BuildingsParticipate in iterative design, testing and development sprints to refine researchPresent research to team; create report or academic paperMinimum QualificationsPursuing a Masters or PhD degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or related fieldsExperience with one or more robotic platforms such as AGVs, robot arms, and related control and navigationBasic knowledge of Revit or BIM softwareAbout the US Intern Program  The 2024 U.S. program runs for 12 weeks (May 20 – August 9 or June 17 – September 6).
