Coursera is seeking an experienced Staff accountant to join our growing team in areas of global accounting operations. Reporting to the International Accounting Manager, this hands-on role will be responsible for coordinating with external consultants on a wide variety of tax compliance and administration, from preparation of tax (corporate and indirect tax) journal entries to preparation/submission of returns and responses to various tax authorities in countries where Coursera operates. We are looking for an accountant with keen interest in the areas of tax compliance and operations. This role will largely manage indirect tax filings such as sales taxes, GST and value-added taxes in APAC and EMEA region. Additionally, the incumbent will support the global accounting team on accounting aspects of corporate income taxes. The incumbent will also participate in cross-functional initiatives concerning taxes. This role will offer the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of tax, act as a bridge between corporate tax/consultants and accounting operation team and make a significant impact at a high growth tech company.
Responsibilities:
Assist in indirect tax returns such as GST/VAT and sales tax including monthly accruals for Coursera’s international entities.
Work closely with India based accounting, AP and revenue team to collate required information for tax compliance purposes. Support US based tax team with inhouse research, inputs and local knowledge related to taxation matters of APAC and EMEA countries
Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants on tax filing and other tax compliance matters. Assist with preparation of audit schedules related to tax accounts for external audits, tax audits and enquiries from tax authorities
Assist in accounting federal, state, and foreign income tax journal entries, working closely with the global tax team and external service providers.
Support payments and treasury team in relation to payment related to taxes across international entities
Contribute to other special projects and initiatives as needed
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or tax
3 - 5 years of relevant experience in IT/SaaS business with global footprint/international subsidiaries (should have at least handled 3 non-India entities in APAC/EMEA region).
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and tax principles
Experience working in a Financial ERP system (preferably NetSuite) and tax accounting software such as OneSource/Avalara
Experience in working tax function in shared services set up preferred
Intermediate Excel skills, basic knowledge of google sheet is welcome
Preferred Qualifications:
CA with 1-2 years of relevant experience or MBA (finance) with 3-5 years of experience in Finance qualification
Specialization in international tax and transfer pricing is added advantage
Experience with a growing SaaS company is a plus
Demonstrable problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail
Able to work independently, cross-functionally and collaboratively
Organized and able to work in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Values collaboration and contributing to the shared goals and success of the team and company
