As an Astera Labs Performance Engineering Intern, you will work closely with Product Line Managers, Product Application and Field Application teams to learn about AI workloads, how to test hardware, and run benchmarks. This is a highly analytical role where time to insights is critical for driving conversations with Cloud Service Providers & AI Factories. This entry-level role will allow a new engineer to accelerate their career in AI infrastructure through interactions with industry veterans, and hands-on experience with real hardware supporting AI use cases.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive performance engineering and outcomes for customers, focusing on data analytics, machine learning, and AI applications
Understand the performance of leading edge hardware and software technologies to identify the sweet spot for our silicon in specific system designs
Assist in designing tools to measure and monitor performance bottlenecks for specific use cases
Work independently, demonstrating good judgment in performance engineering tasks, and contribute to the creative brainstorming of new ideas
Root cause performance and scalability issues, and provide recommendations to solve them
Analyze & present performance data and propose exploratory tests for deeper analysis
Assist in exploring new use cases to substantiate industry trends and support outbound product marketing
Basic Qualifications
Basic understanding for PCIe, CXL, or Ethernet connectivity solutions used in cloud and AI infrastructure
Ability to root cause performance bottlenecks with performance and monitoring tools
Solid understanding of server CPU, memory, network, and storage hardware as they relate to performance
Strong understanding of OS fundamentals (Linux) and proven expertise in solving OS level performance issues
Good understanding of benchmark creation, measurement and modeling of system behavior under load
Strong programming and scripting skills, including languages such as C/C++ and Python
Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills with the ability to lead discussions
Preferred Experience:
1-2 years experience with system and software engineering, significant project experience focusing on performance, benchmarking, and scale
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or similar field) and working towards a Master’s degree in business (or similar field)
Advanced Linux experience and working towards OS certifications
Strong understanding about different databases supporting various use cases to address customer challenges and enhance connectivity solutions
Experience with test automation and performance monitoring
Experience with data science and setting up ML pipelines
