What You'll Do As a Tools Programmer, you will work with a team of other Tool Programmers, UX Designers, and artists to maintain and develop tools that will increase our efficiency and expand our capabilities to create the best content.  You will use your expertise to implement new tools and features into the Unreal Engine to meet other developers’ needs, as well as adding or modifying features of the game engine.  Additionally, you will create user interface Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to support other engine developers. In this role, you will Collaborate with UX designers by reviewing Figma mockups and implementing code in C++ to build modern workflows and user interfaces for Unreal Engine features. Find technical solutions to straightforward UX tasks and write C++ APIs to support other Unreal Engine developers in creating a consistent user experience. Support and contribute to Editor UX team initiatives by writing C++ code (including Unreal Engine's UI in C++, Slate) for user-facing UI elements. Independently drive updates to the Unreal Engine C++ code that improve aspects of existing features or incrementally build new features. Fix bugs and maintain the Unreal Engine code base What we’re looking for Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus any amount of experience. 1 years of experience with each of the following:  Experience writing UIs with a toolkit such as WPF, QT, Slate (UE UI system)  Experience developing in a large codebase and/or collaborating on a project where multiple developers are working in the same codebase Experience developing an API for other developers to use or a user-facing tool and going through iterative development based on feedback Experience using or collaborating with UX mockup software such as Figma to design and then implement user-facing tools Plus an additional 2 years of experience with:  C++ concepts including smart pointers, delegates, inheritance vs. composition, and polymorphism Experience with software engineering principles such as debugging with breakpoints, code reviews, class structure and performance considerations needed when developing a new feature, and trade-offs when writing functionality in an API Multiple positions available      #LI-DNI ABOUT US Epic Games spans across 19 countries with 55 studios and 4,500+ employees globally.
