We are the backend data engineering team for the eBay search engine. Ebay search is what you experience when you do a search on https://www.ebay.com. The eBay search engine handles 80 billion queries daily on a corpus of 3 billion+ documents. Search Data Engineering is a backend platform with pipelines for acquiring, transforming, annotating & storing inventory data, and aggregating dynamic demand, performance and pricing intelligence for eBay inventory to power search ranking and experiences. Our systems are architected to be highly distributed pipelines for both real-time and bulk data processing and updates.Responsibilities include:Design and implement systems compatible with existing Search Infrastructure within eBay. Segment and design system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including business functionality and database accessEstimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changesMust be able to lead engineering design, development and testing, as well as work jointly with other team members to develop services and infrastructure at the intersection of machine learning, Big Data, and distributed systemsYou will build scalable data-intensive infrastructure that processes huge amounts of inventory data, logs, catalogs, transactional data, and user behavior signals. By doing so, we enable teams to become more data-driven and build robust and explainable ML(Machine Learning) servicesYour work will enable customers to build and run end-to-end ML feature management servicesIdentify technical areas for improvement and make proposals for improvements or new areas of opportunitiesWork with Partner teams, Product Management, Data Scientists and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principlesDevelop industry and product technical expertiseTriage and debug production issuesMentor junior team members and ensure they adhere to determined software quality standardsBasic Qualifications:MS/PhD in Computer Science or related discipline with experience in the areas of data mining, information retrieval, machine learning and information extractionHands-on experience in product development of proven algorithmic ideas and concepts in classification, text mining, and information retrieval technologiesExperience with large scale data-driven distributed systems is highly desiredExperience in object-oriented design methodology and application development in Java/ScalaStrong Software development skills (Java, J2EE, Scala, Web Services etc.). Expertise in Java is preferredExperience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Flink and KafkaGood working knowledge of database schema design, performance tuning & SQL.
