Learn more about  Life at GitLab . An overview of this role The Source Code  Engineering Manager focuses on people management within the engineering domain. They view their team as their primary product and prioritize safeguarding their team's well-being, fostering a positive and productive work environment. While they maintain technical credibility and understand the work engineers undertake, their main responsibilities lie in hiring top-tier talent, ensuring the team's success, and delivering on product commitments. Additionally, they actively seek opportunities to enhance productivity and efficiency. Collaboration across departments is essential to achieve shared objectives and goals. What you’ll do    Manage team activities and ensure project delivery. Support engineers' professional growth and skill development. Create detailed project plans for epics. Execute agile project management processes. Foster empathy and address team concerns. Recruit globally-distributed talent and conduct interviews. Cultivate a psychologically safe team environment. Implement process improvements to boost productivity. Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and provide feedback.   What you’ll bring  Proficiency in using GitLab for project management and collaboration. Strong negotiation skills to achieve consensus across departments. Demonstrated leadership experience with current technical competency. In-depth technical expertise in at least one core language, framework, or technology.(Ruby / Go) Familiarity with various functional areas within the team's domain. Additional experience relevant to the role's specialty. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Alignment with organizational values and principles.   About the team The team is focused on ensuring the reliability of GitLab's categories by promptly addressing customer bugs, infrastructure development, and security issues. They play a pivotal role in internal systems like Gitaly and aim to enhance features such as GitLab LFS, GitLab Shell, and Workhorse. Their technical roadmap includes initiatives like enhancing branch protections, CODEOWNERS functionalities, repository statistics, and user experience improvements. The team is distributed across APAC, EMEA, and NORAM, with a current size of 9 to 10 members and ongoing hiring efforts. In the one-year plan, they prioritize improving branch protections, approval rules, user experience, and transparency, along with supporting internal projects and enhancing collaboration. They interact with teams like Gitaly, Data Stores, AI Teams, Code Review Team, and IDE Team, fostering collaboration and alignment across departments. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity . Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary. Colorado/Washington pay range $131,600 — $253,800 USD California/Hawaii/New York/New Jersey pay range $131,600 — $282,000 USD Country Hiring Guidelines: GitLab hires new team members in countries around the world.
