While they are technically credible and know the details of what developers work on, their time is spent hiring a world-class team and putting them in the best position to succeed. They own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. They must also coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals. The Knowledge team builds features supporting the management and transfer of information within organizations. The team maintains GitLab’s Wiki and Pages products, and the Rich Text Editor experience. This role is ideal for an Engineering Manager with significant Ruby experience and an interest in Go. The successful candidate will have a chance to work on one of the most highly adopted GitLab Community Edition products, Pages, along with other promising product areas that already receive significant usage and have huge potential for growth. Further development will include improvements that foster collaboration, enhance information discovery, and leverage the power of AI to elevate the overall user experience. Some examples of our projects: GitLab Pages GitLab Wiki   Rich Text Editor Find out more on the Knowledge Direction Page What you’ll do    Build and maintain a high performing team by: Helping your developers grow their skills and experience Attracting talent of the highest caliber from a globally distributed market Conducting managerial interviews for candidates, and ensuring a high standard of technical assessment is maintained Nurturing psychological safety on your team Holding regular 1:1s, including technical conversations about solutions and proposals Run agile project management processes Draft quarterly OKRs and execute on them Improve product quality, security, and performance while maintaining high velocity Run retrospectives and implement process improvements Conduct code reviews, and make technical contributions to product architecture as well as getting involved in solving bugs and delivering small features Foster technical decision making on the team, but make final decisions when necessary Facilitate a culture of intense customer-focus What you’ll bring  Strong prior managerial experience of more than 3 years. A track record of value delivery to customers.  Exquisite communication: Regularly achieve consensus amongst departments, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role with current technical experience. Experience with managing teams of 5-10 engineers. Experience using Agile planning tools; such as Confluence, Jira, Monday.com, Asana, or open source equivalents is preferred. You share our values, and work in accordance with those values. Experience in a peak performance organization. Deep Ruby on Rails experience, with an interest in other languages and frameworks. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
