College Intern - R&D Mechanical Hardware Engineering (Control Systems)Description -What a College Intern - R&D Mechanical Hardware Engineering does at HP:Designs motion control system (motors and transmission drives) and analyze system accuracy.Designs engineering solutions for mechanical and thermal hardware and electronics enclosures based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, developing fan curves, system power measurements & acoustics.Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.Leads a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high-quality solutions for moderately-complex products.Represents the mechanical/electrical/thermal team for all phases of larger and more-complex development projects.Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced team members.Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:Currently studying a Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or similar fields.Strong in kinematics and motion control will be preferred.Knowledge in servo control or mechatronics will be preferred.Practical skills in programming common languages (eg: Python, MATLAB, C/C++) will be advantageous.Strong in analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience using ProEngineer or other 3D Computer-aided Design (CAD) software as a mechanical design tool will be preferred.Designing sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes.Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.Able to commit for 6 months.Sustainable impact is HP’s commitment to create positive, lasting change for the planet, its people, and our communities.
