The Equipment Engineer 2 will support the day-to-day manufacturing equipment maintenance operations by owning components of a subsystem, with oversight. This individual will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.Responsibilities: Learn and understand new instruments, then work in a team environment to improve equipment reliability and up-timeCollaborate with other engineers to develop and implement procedures to reduce or eliminate sources of systematic equipment failuresInstall new equipment or assist in the construction of new instrumentsWork with vendors to improve support for manufacturing instrumentsContributes ideas for functional development and supports efforts driven by othersContributes to investigation and resolution of technical problemsDevelops innovative solutions within established design architectureGenerate standard operating procedures/work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and checklistsInfluences decisions in own area of responsibilityOwns a small subsystem or multiple components of a large system with oversight.Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and execute multiple parallel activities like calibrations, preventive maintenance, supplier support, spare parts, and project activities with minimal guidance from manager or leadProvides supporting data on risk and recommendations in area of responsibility and at critical interfaces to other cross functional teamsUse optical, mechanical, electrical, and or fluidics tools and knowledge to perform equipment troubleshooting.Understand basic internal instrument communication (RS232, PLC, IO)Safely handle dangerous chemicalsWhile performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, or wear safety gear. Must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 poundsRequirements:Good technical troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitudeAbility to communicate and document equipment issuesAbility to learn new tasks quicklyFundamental knowledge of optical/mechanical/electrical and or fluidic systemsAbility to learn and understand component level failures in small and large instrumentsAbility to operate in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes in priorityExcellent verbal and written documentation skills Experience with electrical and mechanical schematicsExperience working on laboratory equipment preferredComputer trouble-shooting and repair (preferred experience with Microsoft Windows)Good data collection, hands-on skills, and able to summarize resultsKnowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) would be a plusWork experience in Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical / Medical Devices industries would be an advantageTravel up to 10%Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.Experience/Education:2+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or a master’s degree without experience; or equivalent work experienceThe estimated base salary range for the Equipment Engineer 2 role based in the United States of America is: $73,400 - $110,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
