Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. Senior Manager, Software Engineering (Reliability Engineering) Affirm is looking for an experienced, passionate leader to drive the evolution of our critical Reliability Engineering (SRE) function. Your team will set the bar for reliability, availability, and resilience across our entire infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to drive critical roadmaps spanning the entirety of engineering, with immediate and measurable impact on our availability metrics, reliability, and customer experience. Additionally, you will provide much-needed stewardship of our resilience initiatives, reliability programs, partner satisfaction, and customer SLA management. What You’ll Do Support, mentor, and grow a distributed team of talented reliability engineers. Help develop future leaders to support the expansion of your team in size and scope. Build a long-term roadmap for the impactful services and capabilities your team will provide to the entire company. Develop tooling, automation, and best practices which will allow your peers to self-service their own reliability outcomes. Guide the engineering organization towards implementing their own reliability best practices, including observability, change management, and incident response.  Own and improve our highly-visible global incident management lifecycle process, with a particular focus on how to measure and represent the program impact. Expand the scope of our reliability engineering practice to include more advanced capabilities, including chaos engineering and performance or capacity engineering. What We Look For You understand how to build and develop teams. This won’t be your first leadership role, and you have an established track record of leading a reliability or SRE function for at least two years. Thanks to your background in reliability engineering, you have well-informed strategies for incident management, SLO development, release management, and the continuous improvement of our service reliability. You understand that communication is paramount when it comes to building trust and confidence for your team. You should be a prominent advocate, proactively delivering reliability data, reporting, and insights necessary for meaningful action and decision making throughout the organization. You are just as comfortable leading outward and upward as you are leading downward. The right person for this role will be a passionate reliability champion across the company, helping inspire and grow reliability culture all the way up to executive leadership. You have a desire to help others take control of their own destiny. Your team strives to act as a force multiplier, delivering the tools and capabilities necessary for engineering peers to manage their own reliability outcomes. You should have uncomfortably deep experience with modern infrastructure and observability trends, especially in a production Kubernetes environment. Your team and your peers want to learn from you. You should think of yourself as an engineer and help implement proven software development practices within your team. Python? Great! Go or Kotlin?
