The equipment engineering team provides support by maintaining equipment at high-volume manufacturing regulated environment and providing high level reliability exceeding Illumina’s dynamic development and manufacturing demands.  The manager will be a subject-matter expert with deep experience, leading the team to accomplish routine operations, continuous improvement, and projects with energy and enthusiasm.  The manager is responsible for overseeing all installation, repair and upkeep of manufacturing equipment. The manager will ensure that the team members will have the best physical resources available to complete their duties according to the allotted time. Additionally, the manager will have a solid understanding of electrical, mechanical and PLC. The manager will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner. Responsibilities:Analyze process test results, issue reports and make technical recommendationsTechnical skills to troubleshoot equipment failures and machine faults Balances effective utilization of direct reports within project and functional plans as well as the effectiveness of equipment technical performanceConstruct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE's) to optimize equipment and quality issues and drive implementation of solutions in a production environment to meet production goalsInterface and coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, R&D, Facilities, EHS, Quality, Regulatory, among other departments to ensure maintenance and project activities are on time and meet performance goalsLeads teams on the development and deployment of equipment improvements, process improvements, and cost savings as part of the continuous improvement processLead, work on, and guide teams to transfer equipment between manufacturing locationsMaintain staff by recruiting, selecting, training employees and maintaining work instructions; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environmentManages content knowledge for the equipment engineer teamMentors and coaches proactively to set the team up for success and provide for personal career growth both technically and manageriallyOther duties may be assigned as determined by ManagementProvide leadership and direction to the Equipment Engineering team to accomplish all team goals and objectivesRefines existing processes to improve department effectiveness.Takes direction regarding budget and resource allocation.Troubleshoot production line issues related to product quality and equipment malfunction, safety, or obsolescenceWhile performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, or wear safety gear. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
