We're looking for a Senior Policy Specialist to join our Platform Safety Policy team. The Platform Safety Policy team supports the health and success of Reddit communities by devising fair, nuanced, and clear rules that balance Redditors' rights to free expression, privacy, and safety. In this role, you will report to our Platform Safety Policy Lead and develop practical site-wide policies that set understandable expectations for Reddit users, and enable consistent enforcement by Reddit admins. In this context, you will provide our enforcement teams with in-depth policy analysis, and propose and implement improvements to our end-to-end policy development process.
Other responsibilities may include evaluating internal and external data to help prioritize policy development, or assessing ways Reddit products or features may be abused to advise the exploration and implementation of responsible mitigation strategies.
Responsibilities:
Scope, research, draft, and coordinate the launch of new content policies and policy updates, aligned with company goals and stakeholder priorities.
Collaborate closely with Reddit’s enforcement and safety product teams to ensure that Reddit admins have consistent policy guidance.
Serve as the first point of escalation in the EMEA region for enforcement teams to provide policy clarification when edge cases arise, and identify potential policy gaps for future policy development.
Partner with colleagues across Trust & Safety Policy on team-wide initiatives
Liaise with the Reddit Community Relations team to gather, understand, and act on moderator feedback on policy proposals and changes.
Propose and carry out strategies to improve redditors' awareness and understanding of content policies
Refine and manage a standardized process for developing and launching policy changes.
Support other internal teams on various product, platform, and content policy initiatives.
Basic qualifications:
4+ years of experience in the online safety space and content policy development, ideally with a consumer facing-product.
Strong research, writing and project management skills.
Excellent communicator with experience collaborating and bringing alignment across multiple functions.
Ready to work across time zones and be flexible on working hours.
Preferred qualifications:
Empathy, adaptability and sense of humor.
Deep understanding of online community interactions and engagement, content and other safety risks. (Prior experience as a redditor is definitely a plus!)
International perspective to policy development and implementation.
Passion for protecting the freedom of expression of communities on Reddit in balance with their safety and privacy.
