Director of Commercial PC EngineeringDescription -HP is a Human Capital Partner – we commit to human capital development and adopting progressive workplace practices in Singapore.he Director of Engineering will lead, recruit and build a full-fledged engineering team, working with key cross-functional teams (e.g Product Planning and Management, ID, Supply Chain, etc) and IHV/ODM/OEM partners to create and develop customer-centric, differentiated experience-based product portfolio. This leader will report to the VP HP Personal Systems Commercial Engineering.   The ideal candidate is an expert in global product development, engineering roadmap management, partner relations, operational excellence, and customer experience. An executive who challenges the ordinary and seeks to innovate while also balancing execution. They prioritize well, communicate clearly, have a consistent track record of delivery, they are quality and customer-obsessed, and have an established background in developing scalable technical products. The candidate identifies opportunities that can positively impact business strategy, the behavior of key partners, competitors and/or customers within a business, contributes to the direction of the industry, and has a major revenue impact on the business.   They will have extensive experience of leading and building multi-faceted team of engineers across different disciplines.  Key responsibilities: Lead & manage: core engineering functions including engineering project management, product development, design qualification, product certification. advanced and system engineering functions, technology, and innovation teams.  Be accountable for delivering all HP development programs meeting performance, schedule, quality and cost goals within development budget. Lead and improve the product development process by managing internal and external resources using various development models. Strategically manage and optimize engineering budgets to achieve objectives and align with product management priorities. Leverage offshore and 3rd party partners to optimize the cost of product development and software delivery. Develop & execute strategies to improve engineering capabilities and expertise on continuous basis. Navigate through complex organizational setting to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and be able to influence decision. Creates an environment and culture that fosters innovation, push the envelope and challenge status quo; encourage thinking out of the box, develop strong and deep engineering expertise and drive operational excellence. Develop, drive, and own the technology roadmap that support business and product strategy and roadmaps. Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for the organization, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with organizational metrics and business and product plans. Develop managed team to meet business dynamic with modern engineering services.  Scale engineering presence to meet future business demand. Drive organizational change by championing best practices and continuous improvement within the engineering function and its stakeholder organization. Engages with system managers, ID, Product Planning and Management, NPI, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate program status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making. Manages senior relationships and escalated issues with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that organization is effectively leveraging outsourced resources. Provides overall people-care management for direct reports, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development. Able to work under pressure: The ability to manage a high workload in a fast-paced environment, deal with ad-hoc request and situation, and leading high-stake projects. Own organizational health, succession planning and talent management Provide regular updates to Executive Management, Peers and your engineering organization  Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred) or related field.  Master’s or Advanced Degree a plus. Minimum 15 years of work experience in either PC, Mobile (Smart Phone and Tablet), communication or consumer electronics industries, including 10 years of people management experience. Experience managing full-fledged multi-discipline engineering organization demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of end-to-end project and program management and in one or more of the following areas. Embedded system (hardware and firmware) design ME or tooling or moulding design, Wireless technologies Industrial design, Experience design or usability Advanced materials and manufacturing processes Quality criteria and testing strategies, and international compliance. Track record of delivering large number of product programs under very challenging schedule, cost and quality goals; continuously pushing the envelope and challenging status quo Big picture perspective on how design engineering/product development aligns with business objectives, satisfying customers, and achieving commercial success, etc. Strong operations executive.
