In this role you will apply your passion for Design as a CMF expert to guide design creative strategy and vision through a sustainability and CMF mindset, lead/mentor members of the team, collaborate with your colleagues in the Sonos Hardware Design team, Design Management, Engineering, and several other cross-functional teams in Sonos to create innovative experiences and products that brings the highest quality design directly to our listeners. WHAT YOU’LL DO:As a Senior CMF Designer, you will support the creation of strategic palette development within a new Sonos product category. You will ensure CMF strategies support and further enhance the brand experience. You will be involved in every aspect of the CMF design process. This includes trend research, analysis and translation, story creation, material innovation, and development of CMF strategy. You bring knowledge of materials innovation to the team and have the technical knowledge to translate a creative vision into production solutions. You love solving CMF problems and are passionate about bringing responsible solutions to the table. This is both a leadership and hands-on role and will require balancing leading projects/explorations, developing a multidisciplinary way of working with designers, as well as providing leadership and mentor/guide less experienced designers. Creating renderings, artwork and material samples to illustrate the strategy.Contribute to multiple product programs at once, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to resolve real-world CMF design challenges.Explore and influence the development of responsible material efforts in support of our Product Sustainability commitments.Partner with ID to define the CMF point of view at a product program level.Provide leadership, direction and mentorship for a team of DesignersManage CMF product specifications for products in development from concept to production. If you don’t have 100% of the skills listed, we strongly encourage you to apply if interested.Basic Qualifications A BA or BS in Industrial Design or a BS in Engineering (chemical, materials or equivalent), or other related Bachelor's Degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 8-10 years of related professional CMF experience in a corporate or consulting design team environment.A strong portfolio of previous work, demonstrating excellent knowledge of material technologies and manufacturing processes, design philosophy, awareness of social, environmental and design trends, ability to articulate meaningful CMF design considerations.Experience and understanding of how various material & finish choices can impact mechanical, structural, electrical, manufacturing process, and cost requirements. Experience in designing, developing, and shipping retail products for worldwide markets, with a preferred focus in the area of consumer electronics & domestic appliances.Ability to think creatively and critically across a range of problem types while keeping sight of portfolio level goals. Acute attention to detail while spanning across numerous projects and a proven track record in making subjective calls.Strong storytelling and presentation skills.Ability to work independently as well as within a mixed team environment. Experience interacting and effectively communicating with internal partners & 3rd party vendors throughout the design development processThe expertise in using design tools (i.e CAD, Keyshot, Creative suite +) to produce high fidelity prototypes, visualizations and appearance models.Experience in team leadership, training and mentorship. Preferred QualificationsHigh degree of color acuity per Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Test.Experience with Product Sustainability. Experience with wearable products and/or soft goods.
