Serving as the primary point of contact for all database-related concerns, they ensure optimized and reliable database operations by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving performance issues. This role involves leading disaster recovery initiatives to ensure data integrity, availability, and security across both databases and applications. Additionally, the Principal Database Administrator collaborates with the Engineering and Infrastructure teams to streamline Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, automate routine tasks using TypeScript and Bash, and continuously assess and integrate relevant AWS tools and services to enhance overall database and application performance. This role plays a pivotal role in developing, promoting, and enforcing best practices across databases and DevOps operations.Responsibilities: Create and implement an efficient and proficient data strategy for mortgage product needs. Architect relational data structures for proficiency, performance, and continuity. Design and document a maintainable data dictionary for growth and understanding of our data Provides direction on all database-related matters, ensuring optimized and reliable database operations. Partner with Data Science teams to ensure accurate and timely data is properly cataloged and available in Data Lake or Warehouse as needed. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues; partners with other stakeholders to optimize server configurations, to improve index/query performance, and to improve other database efficiencies. Administer, manage, and maintain existing AWS Aurora Databases. Develop strategies and implement solutions for managing back-ups, restoration and replication. Lead disaster recovery initiatives, ensuring data integrity, availability, and safety across both databases and applications. Collaborates and leads discussions/reviews with the DevOps team to streamline CI/CD pipelines, automate routine tasks. Continuously assess and integrate relevant AWS tools and services to enhance database and application performance. Design and implement best practices and standing operating procedures across databases and DevOps operations. Qualifications: Required:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 8+ years of experience or a combination of experience and education. Ability to independently manage, troubleshoot and optimize databases. Experience with data migration / data retention. In-depth knowledge of SQL and database management. Full proficiency in Bash or similar shell scripting for task automation. Experience in database security, integrity and stability. Effective communication skills, ensuring clear conveyance of ideas and strategies. Desired:Familiarity with a wide range of AWS and data warehousing services. “AWS Certified Database – Specialty" or similar cloud database certification Solid understanding of infrastructure as code and best practices for automation. Experience with Redis. Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
