In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for some of the core software and firmware at the heart of the industry’s most innovative portable products. In the process, you will work with some of the brightest minds in the business across multiple disciplines of software, hardware, radio, acoustics, WiFi, and Bluetooth technologies. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team tasked with shaping the future of Sonos Portables from definition to launch. What You’ll DoDecompose problems into logical components that can be cleanly implemented and efficiently executed in softwareDevelop new features and maximize the potential of new and existing technologiesDesign, build, analyze, enhance, and refactor elements of the embedded software system used to power Sonos productsDebug complex low-level problems that may span interfaces between hardware and softwareWhat You'll NeedBasic Qualifications: BS or MS in EE, CS, Mathematics, or related discipline with 5+ years of relevant experienceEmbedded system programming in C/C++Knowledge of common communication interfaces at a hardware integration level (SPI, I2C, I2S, UART, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.)Power Management Unit (PMU) programming for battery charge algorithms, battery health monitoring and management, various power modes for low power battery operated products with hands-on experience profiling, optimizing, and debugging PMUsIn-depth understanding of modern embedded SW development processes including design, implementation, unit testing, continuous integration, version control etc.Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience articulating technical concepts in cross-functional teamsAbility to work with people with different cultures and backgrounds in different locations and time zonesPreferred Qualifications: Experience with embedded Linux and real-time operating systems Solid track record of shipping reliable, extensible and maintainable softwareHands-on testing and debugging of embedded systems in a laboratory environmentSolid understanding of Bluetooth fundamentals including Bluetooth Classic, Low Energy, and LE audioExperience in WiFi, including over the air analysis, and wireless coexistenceAbility to write and modify radio controller firmwareExposure to acoustics and acoustic measurementsUnderstanding of digital signal processing fundamentals such as sampling, dynamic range, digital filtering, fixed point vs floating point, optimizations of inner loopsDemonstrated experience in audio and speech processingEmbedded hardware design experience to understand constraints and challenges, tolerance analysisAt Sonos we consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may lead  individual compensation to vary depending on job related qualifications, skills, and experience.  All full time employees are eligible for merit increases, discretionary bonuses, and equity.  Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.
