Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.The Illumina Laboratory Services Process Engineering and Support Team is seeking a Process Development Engineer 1 to troubleshoot, sustain, and ensure continuous improvement of Illumina’s deployed clinical diagnostic products and workflows within the clinical lab. This individual will work closely with mid- and senior level engineering personnel, lab and technical operations staff, product development, software development, and quality assurance teams to deliver expanded capability, throughput, and data quality for existing clinical lab workflows. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, highly matrixed organization as a key member of the Process Engineering and Support Team responsible for enabling world-class clinical production labs and accelerating the impact of genomics on human health.Responsibilities: Support continuous improvement efforts driven by mid- and senior level engineering staff.Work closely with cross functional teams and contribute to investigations and resolution of technical problems within the clinical laboratory.Contribute to process risk assessments and provide recommendations for risk mitigation in area of responsibility.Contributes ideas for functional development within area of responsibility.With guidance, execute experiments to support process changes.Able to own a sub-component of a small to medium system, with oversight.Plan tasks and activities with guidance.Provide supporting data to project and engineering leads in area of responsibility.Communicate observations, technical findings, and progress in technical group settings.Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.Requirements: B.S in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience0-2 years relevant experience in production support/sustaining and/or process definition and development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation.Support/sustaining and/or process definition and development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation.Efficient, effective problem-solving skills.Familiarity with statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Design of Experiment (DOE) techniques. Applied experience is a plus.Works effectively in team environment and shares credit for successes.Is receptive to ideas and appreciates alternative backgrounds/perspectives.High level computer skills are required. Rudimentary programming knowledge is a plus.Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) is preferred.Familiarity with Six Sigma preferred.Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology preferred.Experience working in an cGxP, CLIA, CAP, NYS, and/or ISO13485 lab is preferred.Familiarity with automated liquid handlers such Tecan and/or Hamilton is preferred.All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.The estimated base salary range for the Process Development Engineer 1 role based in the United States of America is: $60,500 - $90,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
