As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras. The Camera Systems Engineering Group develops systems, calibration, and correction procedures to maintain high image quality over a wide range of use cases and component variation. Past projects have addressed, autofocus, image stabilization, position sensing, stereo imaging, special-case optimizations (low-light, high disturbance, etc), support of factory operations. The team is seeking an exceptional control systems engineer with broad skills to design and develop the next generation of camera technology. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Expertise in linear and nonlinear control systems design, including realizations for electronic and electromechanical systems Expertise in estimation strategies (e.g. Kalman filtering and its applications) Ability to formulate lumped-mass dynamic models from first principles, and proficiency with flexible body dynamics Expertise in the use of Matlab and Simulink for modeling and simulation Expertise in systems characterization and identification Proficiency with test equipment such as dynamic signal analyzers and oscilloscopes Experience with real-time control-system realization with microcontrollers (DSP, C, C++) Broad knowledge of engineering concepts (device behavior, troubleshooting, data-analysis, systems modeling) Great interpersonal skills - the ability to collaborate across groups Great verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to take ownership of complicated problems and see them through to completion Description Description - Systems-level analysis and modeling of electromechanical systems - Control systems analysis, synthesis, and implementation - Measurement system prototyping, including HW, FW and SW development - Automation of measurement procedures and data analysis (Matlab, Python, etc.) - Interfaces and components for electromechanical applications (laser metrology, micro controllers, magnetic sensors, actuators) - Broad familiarity of multidisciplinary subjects related to control systems applications in electro-mechanical devices (firmware realizations, actuators, sensors, mechanical and electrical engineering, etc) - Defining, documenting, publishing and maintaining system specifications - Defining subsystem and system level tests to characterize and/or guarantee parametric specifications - Management of project deliverables and schedules to meet commitments to product development teams - Discovering and tracking external technology development by suppliers, competitors, and academia - Occasional international travel to existing and potential vendors of camera technology Education & Experience Education & Experience BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience Additional Requirements Additional Requirements -Proficiency with simple mechanical prototyping for lab purposes (3D modeling, having parts made through 3rd parties) -Familiarity with NI CRIO Real-time -Familiarity with CAD / Solid modeling tools -Familiarity with inertial navigation sensors and sensor fusion -Familiarity with camera, optics and electro-optics technology -Familiarity with Python -Familiarity with version control utilities Pay & Benefits Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
