Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven and energetic individual to join our Electrical Engineering team at our San Diego design facility.  You will become a member of Illumina’s award-winning team doing cutting-edge development of sequencing instruments – and enjoy a fast-paced dynamic environment and a culture of open communication and mutual respect!  The Electrical Engineering team defines, develops, and commercializes our designs for new, industry-leading sequencing instruments for life sciences and clinical markets. Responsibilities:Perform board-level design with significant challenges related to complexity, power, size and thermal managementExecute parameter analysis, system modelling, board simulation, board bring-up and troubleshootingWork on and contribute to electronics related areas such as power systems, cabling, communication, safety, and control systemsDeep dive on failure analysis at board and system level, and lead both short term containment and permanent solutionsLead or contribute to development of sequencing instruments with a focus on Electrical Engineering within Embedded SystemsLead development of instrument-level telemetry system, working with subject matter experts, firmware, and software teamsLead or contribute to development of analysis and support tools for instrument performance dataDefine module-level specifications and requirementsIdentify potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) issues and provide technical recommendations for mitigation strategies during design and testingWork with cross-functional teams on optimizing performance, reliability, and costDefine and implement processes to improve project execution Requirements:8+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering or equivalentStrong knowledge in analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit designWorking knowledge of system design, simulation, and modellingStrong knowledge of data analysisKnowledge and experience in cable assembly and wire harness designWorking knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ISO and NEMAWorking knowledge in firmware and softwareAbility to guide other multi-discipline design teams to ensure successful project execution.Collaborates, builds relationships, and influences team members to work towards common goalsExcellent written and oral communication and presentation skills Education:Typically requires or equivalent work experience: BSc/MS: 8+ years of experience or PhD: 3+ years of experienceElectrical Engineering degree is HIGHLY preferredThe estimated base salary range for the Staff Electrical Engineer role based in the United States of America is: $113,600 - $170,400. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
