This role will contribute to our company’s vision to construct a globally coherent ecosystem of intelligent agents. You will be an active part of our research team, focusing on augmenting research and product expertise using insights from human cognition. One of the focuses of your research will be on modeling emotional inference, as well as other core components of intelligent behavior in artificial agents, using tools from cognitive psychology and machine learning. While interacting with product teams, you will be key to advancing our product development. Simultaneously, your research progress will inform our understanding of beneficial real-world agents. Essential Functions - a/k/a Your Mission: Lead a team of researchers to work on multimodal and contextual modeling of affective states, as well as other core topics in the modeling of artificially intelligent agents Enhance the learning and inference capabilities of the systems that we develop at VERSES using insights from psychological research Conduct experimental studies for the benefit of research and product teams Conduct data analysis on existing data sets, as well as those derived from internal product-focused and research-focused experiments Develop an understanding of active and affective inference for purposes related to the development of new products Test user personas related to new product concepts, evaluating results of those investigations with special attention to general considerations of cognitive psychology Contribute to the framework guiding how our products are conceptualized as augmenting and enhancing human intelligence Great to Haves Experience with computational modeling Strong knowledge of cognitive psychology Ability to work within a team of both machine learning research scientists and engineers Sympathetic to Bayesian approaches in machine learning Minimum Requirements PhD in psychology, psychometrics, machine learning, mathematics, computer science, or operations research Strong background in experimental psychology Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Good communication and collaboration skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team
