Associate Site Reliability Engineer, Operations (APAC)    An overview of this role Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) are responsible for keeping all user-facing services and other GitLab production systems running smoothly. SREs are a blend of pragmatic operators and software craftspeople that apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to our environments and the GitLab codebase. We specialize in systems, whether it be networking, the Linux kernel, or some more specific interest in scaling, algorithms, or distributed systems. GitLab.com is one of the biggest GitLab instances in existence. In fact, it’s one of the largest multi-tenancy open-core SaaS sites on the internet.  The experience of our team feeds back into other engineering groups within the company, as well as to GitLab customers running self-managed installations. You’ll bring: Drive for automation of every operational task, a core requirement for this role. For example, package updates, configuration changes across all environments, creating tools for automatic provisioning of user facing services, etc. Focus and agility to respond to platform emergencies, alerts, and escalations from Customer Support. Team focus by helping the team plan for new service roll-outs, expansion and capacity management of existing services, and work to optimize resource consumption. Some examples of the projects you could work on: Coding infrastructure automation with Terraform. Implementing configuration changes across various internal systems. Improving our Prometheus Monitoring or building new Metrics. Ensuring that corrective actions are implemented. Making monitoring and alerting alert on symptoms and not on outages. What you’ll do Be on a PagerDuty rotation to respond to GitLab.com availability incidents and provide support for service engineers with customer incidents. Analyze existing and maintain new GitLab.com Service Level Objectives. Troubleshoot, evaluate and resolve operational challenges contributing to defined SLO's. Contribute tooling to automate operational tasks and increase team efficiency . Assist in maintaining supporting infrastructure and tooling to meet the demands of GitLab.com. Collaborate with cross functional teams to remove work blockers. Create and update documentation, refining the existing and adding new operational runbooks. Learn how to collaborate with development and security teams to align with SRE best practices. What you’ll bring  Basic understanding of system administration and networking. Familiarity with scripting languages, and understanding of basic concepts of either Ruby or Go. Clear and concise written and verbal communication. Drive to learn and urge to learn from the feedback provided by peers. Ability to leverage GitLab as your day-to-day go-to tool.
