Our customers expect a simple intuitive experience between these areas and our aim is to deliver on that expectation.About the RoleAs a leader of the team, you’ll directly manage 4-6 engineers at varying experience levels and stages in their career. You’ll work 1-to-1 with engineers to help them set and achieve goals, develop new skills, and support their overall career progression and personal development. You’ll also play a key role in hiring additional members of your team as we continue to grow the Peakon engineering team at Workday.As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for executing on the product vision, working closely with the Product Manager, Product Designer and other stakeholders to scope, refine and break down projects, ensuring a high level of quality and timely delivery of your team’s projects. You’ll guide the day-to-day technical work of the team, focusing on sound architecture, quality and building the right things, the right way.As part of the Peakon team at Workday, you'll:Be the people leader for 4-6 engineers of various disciplines and experience levelsProvide guidance to members of your team, knowing when to coach and when to mentorUse your technical expertise to contribute towards building a best-in-class productSet your team up for success by removing obstacles and supporting their personal and professional growthCollaborate with the Product Manager to plan and prioritise work on your team’s roadmapWork closely with our talent acquisition team to define a hiring process for your team that ensures we hire the best talentBe a member of the wider Engineering Management team, meeting regularly with peers from other teams to discuss best practices and challenges​Our TechWe make it a priority to stay on the cutting edge of tech. We are highly motivated by learning and growing in our roles, and constantly evolving is a key part of that.We believe there is great value in a shared toolchain, which is why our tech stack centers around JavaScript, with Node.js on the server and React on the frontend. To prevent runtime errors in our frontend applications, we have recently introduced TypeScript. Ultimately we believe that our tech stack needs to evolve as our industry evolves.We are hosted on AWS and we use PostgreSQL (through RDS), Redis and ElasticSearch for storage. We rely heavily on automated testing on all levels of the application, with thousands of tests checking every commit to our code base. We use Buildkite for continuous integration to make sure our most recent changes are always available to test, and we deploy code to our production environment every day.About YouBasic Qualifications2-4 years managing, coaching and mentoring team mates and driving deliveryYou have excellent written and verbal communications skills in EnglishOther QualificationsYou have experience with designing, developing and releasing software products.You have experience building web applications with an understanding of scalability, high availability, latency and throughputYou prefer the challenge, and reward, of working with a team towards a common goal, rather than trying to reach it alone.You are passionate about building and leading an inclusive and diverse teamYou have a good understanding of agile product development and what it takes to bring a product from idea into the hands of customersYou are passionate about finding ways to develop people and improve processesYou know how to establish realistic timelines to ensure consistent high quality deliveriesOur Approach to Flexible Work With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote.
